324th post; It's the end

So I've been meaning to do one final post, forever will I no longer have to blog for school. Exams are over and I'm sure you all did excellent. The school year has ended and it is now time for the exams. Study hard everybody, good luck with the rest of the exams.

I dreaded going to class everyday but I THINK I'm gonna miss it. It's weird that its all finally over. All the memories created through out the semester. As classes went by I think my interest in math sparked.

Thank you Mr.K for educating us so well in math, math wasn't so boring with you teaching us. Those interesting little facts and stories you always feed us. It was awesome how you got each student involved in someway. It is a shame that DMCI will be losing a teacher like you. Congratulations on your new job, take care and good luck in the future.

On the other note were you this type of student? I know I was.

BOB not just sweet words

Reflection time again!!! I think that I'm current a very messed up canvas. It's not that I don't understand, I do but its just when it come test time that I feel that I don't. Everyone already posted most of the stuff you need to know and it will just be redundant if i say the again.

Success for the test(?):
- remember the formulas/equations!
- when we see the equations were suppose to see the graph!
- completing the square
- practice makes close to perfect
- eat, sleep and study
- confidence!

Good luck on the test tomorrow, study, study study.

What cha doing up at 5am BOB?

Howdy y'all, I'm finally finished my English and now I get to do my BOB. This unit was really quick, but I like this unit. I'm more of a word problem solver than a numbers person. With that being said I'm still working of the binomial theorem and all those other more number related things. I'm feel good for the test but usually when I feel that . . . . dun dun dun comes later when i get my test back.

So some quick things we should remember:
-For permutations order matters!
-For combination's order does not matter!
-For things that have to be together it is be to "put it in a bag"
-Look out for repetitions
-Remember bracelets and necklaces can be flipped
-For circle permutations it doesn't matter where you start, so glue a person to the floor.

Sorry if this doesn't make any sense at all but I'm really tired, I don't think I'm gonna get any sleep today and I can hear wind chimes. Its giving me the hebe geebees

B to the O to the B, BOB

So I almost for got to do this. I have been neglecting my homework for this unit, well because I have some very important studying to be done (just a week and some left) and major projects to be finish. With that said I did not get as much practice as I wanted, so I'm afraid for the test. I really do hope that I'll do well but lets just see how things go. I'm gonna go back to do what I was doing prior to this now and I'll be stuDYING . Well good luck guys and break a nail.

041309 Graphing Exponential Functions

Good evening everybody. It's Jennifer again, I've been granted the "honor" of scribing for today. We started today off by discussing that flicker; a year to remember image.
Which is an exponential graph. I don't remember how we got here since I do have an attention span of a drosophila melanogaster. We had a scenario where Mr.K ask how long we would be sitting if we wanted a million dollars at a rate of I think a dollar per second.( correct me if I'm wrong.)

And if we have lived a million seconds, billions. If I remember correctly it was 12 days for a million seconds and 32 years for a billion seconds. That's a long time for a billion seconds. So in conclusion yes we have lived for a million seconds, no we haven't lived for a billion seconds but were a year or two more than half way.

We talked about the dinosaurs and Jurassic Park things that he said we were gonna talk about later. Carbon dating is an epic fail for finding how ancient the dinosaur bones are because carbon dating is only accurate for approximate of 50,000ish years. After the dinosaur dies the C14 starts to decaying. It will decay and decay to the point where it's practically non-existing.

Lets get to the actual math now.

Sample numéro un;
Easy? Both solutions are well done and correct. But as you can the red is simpler and quicker. Factoring the equation in the red box, saves you some time. You can use the quadratic formula and it will give you the correct answer. But remember in the exam time is limited, so it is best to go with the quicker process.

sample; numéro deux

The equation was factored, then substituted the value into the equation.
4^x = -1 is undefined. Why? Because there is no value that x can be that produce a negative number. Go try it.

We did not do much graphing today. So I'm only assuming that, that is what we are going to do tomorrow. Look at all the stultiloquence I did. More than I thought. I'm awfully sorry about the quality of this post, it was rushed.

Homework: Exercise 19 # 1-10, and choose 5 from the rest.
Exercise 20 # 10-12

And the next scribe is. . . .
Eeny, meeny, miny, moe . . . . . you are it.

Identities for BOB

Hi BOB time again. This is gonna be quick and fast since I'm restricted to using a phone. Lets see, i really don't like this unit. Since it's all about the cleaver ideas and i'm not a clever person so therefore no cleaver ideas. But hope full i can get enough practice for the test.

TEST MOVED TO THURSDAY APRIL 9, 2009
But we are starting the new unit it tomorrow logarithms i believe.
don't forget to do your DELICIOUS bookmark. Know your trig identities.
This is taking me a very long time, well bye.
Good luck on the test.

BOBing for apples

Hi my wonderful blueberry muffins, Since I'm currently suffering from some insomnia, I'll do my BOB. This unit was okay. I had some trouble with the reciprocal functions though. But i figure it out in the end. yay. I'd like to think that I would do well on the test, but I'm not so sure.

Recap;
af(bx-c)+d
Where:
  • a is amplitude
  • b determines the period (note: period is not b)
  • c determines the phase shift (left or right)
  • d determines the vertical shift

Inverse Function
y = f -1(x)is the reflection of y = f(x)

Even & Odd Functions
Even function; f(-x) = f(x)
Odd function; f(-x) = -f(x)

Reciprocal Functions
y = 1/ f(x)

More Notes;
-invariant points are points that don't change in position when a transformation is applied
- y = 1/ f(x) is not the same thing as f -1(x)

Things to Know and Do
-Test is Monday March 16th
-Pre-test is Friday 13th (it's a sign we might all do bad)
- get lots of sleep and eat breakfast!
-Don't forget to come to class
- STUDY

Good Luck guys

022609 QUIZ DAY

Hello ladies and gentlemen, how are you? I'm Jennifer, I'm scribing for Thursdays class February 26th I believe. Well on 26th we had a QUIZ on translations and corrected it in class. The quiz was posted up along with the answers by the teacher. THE END . . . . just kidding

Well I think I should go over the answers and how we got that but since my classmates are so smart. I don't think it's necessary and considering the fact that the quiz was so straight forward. But since there seemed to have been some confusion near the end of class I will try to clarify things. Since it was the quiz that confused some people, I will not reference to the quiz. Hopefully you will be able to understand after my explanations.

Stretches/ Compressions
Vertical stretches/ compressions: A vertical stretch/ compression is represented by the form of
y= af(x)
Where a is the vertical stretch factor.
Example one: Stretch x^2 by a factor of 3.

All the y-values are now higher. We just stretched the graph vertically up.

Horizontal Stretches/ Compressions: A horizontal stretch is represented by the form of
y= f(bx)
Where the reciprocal of b (1/b) is the stretch factor.
Example two: Apply f(2x)^2 to x^2
The graph has just been compressed horizontally.

Shifts
Vertical Shift; A vertical shift is represented by the form of

y= f(x) + d

Where d is the upward or down shift.

Example three: Shift x^2 up by 1 unit.

Horizontal Shift; A horizontal shift is represented by the form of

y= f(x - c)

Where c is the left or right shift.

Example four. Shift x^2 right 1 unit

NOTE: Watch the signs of your c, it is opposite.

All Together Now
af(bx - c) + d
Example five: Describe how the graph of y= -3f(x -4) +2 compares to y=f(x).
-3: reflects on the x-axis and stretched vertically by 3
4: moves f(x) right 4 units
+2: moves f(x) up by 2 units
(HIGHLIGHT FOR THE ANSWER)

Well that was basically what the quiz was on, translations. And as you can see near the middle of the post I came across some format problems that I just can't seem to fix ): I hope this will help you understand the mistakes that you might have made on the quiz. And if you still want me to go over the quiz I will if needed.

This took longer than I expected. I was even going to post what I have right now I was just gonna say we had a quiz, the end. But it didn't seem fair to my classmates so I did this. We do scribe on quiz days right? It was only tests that we can't scribe for.
Goodnight classmates.

The next scribe is shumei
Toddles see you all Monday!
P.S(I wonder what that stands for?) MR.K come back soon your class needs you!

021909 Circular Functions Reflection

Hey guys,
Let me start offf by saying I detest circles and radians. Well the circular funtions unit isn't as difficult as it seems. I'm hoping I'll do well. Mr.K does a great job teaching, teaching us the; hows and whys. Not just stating the numbers and formulas that are hard to remember, like other teachers do.

Things we should know;
-converting radians to degrees, degrees to radians
- Arc length questions, portportions
- finding standard postion and finding reference angles
- solve for theta given different ranges
- exact values
- stretchs/ compressions, vertical/ horizonal shifts in functions
- unit circle
and so on.

and I don't get todays slides there's no questions or anything. So if you have the time care to tell me what we did in class today. But from my very little understanding it looks like what we did tuesday, is that right?

Well study hard precal classmates and good luck on the test tomorrow.
